Corrections are the ones that get answered first

If a sea temperature here disagrees with a source you trust — a local buoy, a harbour board, your own thermometer — the URL of the page is enough to start with. The methodology page explains where the figures come from and what they cannot capture, and it settles most disagreements on its own: these are satellite averages of the open water near a city, not readings taken at one beach on one day.

A city that is missing is also worth reporting, though the answer is often that it was left out on purpose. Places with no measured sea temperature get no page rather than an estimated one, and a smaller town within 15 km of a larger one is dropped so the site does not publish the same stretch of coast twice.

What cannot be answered

Whether it is safe for you to swim somewhere. Nothing here knows about currents, tides, pollution, jellyfish on the day, or your own cold tolerance and health — and an average temperature is the least of what drowns people. Ask the people who watch that water: the local lifeguard, harbour master or swimming club.
